Her training also extends into the skills needed for a more polished adult companion, including longer-duration place work, extended stays, structured heel work, advanced recall, impulse control, neutrality around people and dogs, environmental confidence, distraction obedience, calm behavior in unfamiliar environments, advanced handler focus, controlled entrances and exits, and the ability to settle for longer periods while activity continues around her.
That distinction is important. We are not interested in producing a dog who performs five commands perfectly for two minutes and then becomes difficult to manage during normal life. Kira is being trained to become useful and enjoyable outside of a formal training session.
