Atlas has been developing the basic and advanced obedience skills we consider essential for a well-rounded adult Doberman. His current training foundation includes sit, down, stay, come, recall, heel, place, kennel/crate, wait, leave it, drop/out, off, loose-leash walking, structured leash manners, doorway and threshold control, appropriate greeting behavior, handler engagement, crate settling, household settling, vehicle loading and unloading, vehicle manners, handling for grooming and routine care, and maintaining appropriate behavior around everyday distractions.

His training also extends beyond basic commands. Atlas is developing the skills needed for longer-duration place work, extended stays, structured heel work, advanced recall, impulse control, neutrality around people and dogs, environmental confidence, distraction obedience, calm behavior in unfamiliar environments, advanced handler focus, controlled entrances and exits, travel manners, and the ability to settle for longer periods while activity continues around him.

That distinction is important. We are not interested in producing a dog who performs five commands perfectly for a two-minute video and then becomes difficult to manage during normal life. Atlas is being trained to become a dog who is useful and enjoyable outside of a training session.

He should be able to travel in the vehicle, walk appropriately with his owner, wait at a doorway, hold a place while guests enter, settle while the family is busy, move through unfamiliar environments confidently, recall when called, and understand when he is expected to simply relax.

Rather than spending those 60 days repeating a generic training program, we use them to take the foundation Atlas already has and develop the behaviors that matter most to his future family. Before that portion of his program begins, we discuss your household, daily routine, other pets, children, travel habits, training expectations, and long-term goals for him.

For a family who wants a beautifully mannered companion, those 60 days can focus heavily on advanced household obedience, off-switch development, guest manners, place work, recall, leash reliability, public manners, travel, and greater freedom within the home.

For a family who wants Atlas to accompany them throughout daily life, training can place additional emphasis on public neutrality, restaurants and patios where dogs are permitted, stores and other dog-friendly environments, vehicle travel, hotel manners, long-duration settling, environmental confidence, distraction obedience, and advanced handler engagement.

If his future family travels frequently, we can make travel part of the program. If they entertain often, we can devote additional work to doorway control, place, neutrality around visitors, and remaining settled while people move throughout the home. If there are children or other animals in the household, we can continue reinforcing boundaries, calm integration, and appropriate household behavior.

The goal is simple: Atlas does not complete 60 more days of training for an imaginary owner. He completes them for you.
